Cisco linksys IAD setup

SIP VoIP access gateway is a multi-purpose VoIP gateway designed for regular phone service, fax service and IP connectivity for legacy PBX system. Commonly, these types of VoIP gateways are called Integrated Access Devices (IADs).

Pre-requisite
  • Registered account number (main lines and hypo lines) 
  • The proxy ip, password for configuration
  • The ONT should be stable and you must have telephone set for testing
  • Ethernet port of the ONT should be configured for IAD device


Steps Involved
  1. Physical connection
  2. Login to IAD
  3. Upgrade the IAD if it has old firmware
  4. Configure the parameters
  5. Check the dial tone, incoming and outgoing
1. Physical connection




a) Connect laptop to the AUX port of the IAD and connect IAD Ethernet port with defined ethernet port of the ONT
b) Power on the IAD and wait until you will receive IP address 192.168.0.X

2. Login to IAD

Type 192.168.0.1 and click on Admin Login


3. Upgrade the IAD if it has old firmware



a) Check if your IAD has lastest firmware or not. If it is not 6.1.10(004), download the new one  spa8000-6-1-10-004.exe
b) Open the software and follow these steps



c) Click on Update firmware > Continue > Give IAD ip address 192.168.0.1 > OK > Click Upgrade
d) The IAD will restart after upgrade is finished

4. Configure parameters

a) Check network status

Click on Admin Login and check connectivity on Network > Status


b) Configure dial plan

Go to Voice > Regional. On Distinctive Ring Patterns change dial plan value to

2.4(.4/2);60(.4/.2,.4/2)



c) Configure main line on L1

Go to L1 use following settings

  • Proxy and Registration  => give proxy ip
  • Subscriber Information => give main account no. as Display name and User ID both and give password
  • Supplementary Service Subscription => Select No on Reuse CID Number As Name field
  • Audio Configuration => Select G729a on Preferred Codec field
  • Dial Plan => Use following latest dial plan

d) Configure hyp lines on L2, L3, L4 as required

Go to L2/L3/L4 .... use following settings

  • Proxy and Registration  => give proxy ip
  • Subscriber Information => give main account no. as Display name and hypo number as User ID and give password
  • Supplementary Service Subscription => Select No on Reuse CID Number As Name field
  • Audio Configuration => Select G729a on Preferred Codec field
  • Dial Plan => Use following latest dial plan

5. Check the dial tone, incoming and outgoing

  • If your configurations are all correct you have to call CTSC (ISO Dept).
  • In most cases, you should call CTSC for 0,00 activation

Slow browsing is most common issues for Internet users. There are too many things that could affect your Internet speed. In this section, I will present you the most basic methods to cope with slow browsing.
  1. Check your Internet package
  2. Properly check your Internet speed
  3. Change your wireless password
  4. Fix your computer or mobile issues
  5. Avoid unnecessary sharing
  6. Book a complaint
1. Check you Internet package

Etisalat Internet package starts with 256kbps, 512kbps, 1mb, 10mb, 20mb, 50mb, 100mb and has different price range and additional products. 



You should be aware about your package before going to next step. If you don't know about the price and package you are using you can call 101 and make inquiries.

2. Check you Internet speed properly

Scenario 1:

If you have copper based Al Shamil connection, the straight-forward way to check Internet speed is to plug a ready made CAT6 patch cable (available in the market) from the router LAN port to your computer, disconnect the wifi connection in your device and perform Speed test at least 2 or 3 times.



Scenario 2:

If you have fiber optic based broadband connection

Step 1: Check from router

Connect your router and computer with ready made CAT6 patch cable and perform Speed test. If you are getting slower download speed follow step 2.

Step 2: Check from ONT 


a) Connect your computer directly to the Ethernet Port 1 of the fiber optic box ONT with ready made CAT6 patch cable.
b) Create dial up connection (see here for Windows 7 , Windows XP)
c) Perform Speed test

3. Change your wireless password

Now-a-days, lots of softwares are available to crack the wifi password. If you are using WEP encryption, change it immediately and use WPA2 instead. May be your neighbors are creepy enough to steal your wireless password. May be you gave password to one of your friend, then he gave it to one of his friend and ....... all are enjoying free wifi. Change your password if there is drastic drop in the speed, somebody might using your wifi and downloading tons of stuffs. Here is helpful page for you to learn these thing => Router Setup Methods

4. Fix your computer or mobile issues
  • Remove unwanted softwares
  • Stop automatic updates of softwares
  • Never use more than one antivirus
  • Optimize your computer network using Bootspeed software
  • Optimize your browser for Internet 
  • Turn OFF or remove VPN softwares
  • Turn OFF file/torrent sharing softwares
  • Keep your LAN or Wireless Network hardware and drivers up-to-date
  • Never use any Static LAN IP or DNS IP or Proxy IP



5. Avoid unnecessary sharing

Avoid sharing with neighbors or strangers as much as possible. Most routers can handle 16 wifi connection. Sharing your Internet with strangers, your security guard, or friends of friend is like works like a chain reaction, thus drains most bandwidth. In UAE, you can be behind the bars due to Internet sharing. I have seen most people doing MAC filtering which is good option but not the better unless you have suitable router for that kind of stuff.

6. Book a complaint

There could be issues from ISP side also. If you are upgrading to higher speed, sometime the automation task gets stuck and does not provide you the requested speed. Sometime there is issue with the parameters of your account or username/password. Sometime there could be problem in ONT Ethernet port or the router provided by your ISP. Sometime the existing router does not have capacity to support the speed. Your ISP usually has a section to monitor and control the Internet Bandwidth for its subscribers. If you are clear from Steps 1 to 5, kindly book a complaint for assistance.

Etisalat UAE has various offers for eLife subscribers. Being a eLife subscriber you can get many benefits such as free connection, free 3 months/6 months usage of certain services, free national and international calls, free tv packages, free upgrades, free hotspot hours etc. In this section I am refering only to the eLife offers (fixed connection), not mobile and other service offer.

When Etisalat started fiber optic based eLife services, they provided various options such as free installation charge, first 3 months free services, discounted monthly charges, discounts on various services for double play services especially for both existing and new customers. The Internet speed introduced was 8,16,30,40,100mbps with one landline connection and of course the IPTV also as upgrade. At that time, there used to be one free additional landline number for 30mbps triple play subscribers.




Etisalat has really worked hard to lead the telecom sector and now it has established UAE as successful fiber optic networked nation. They are trying their best for establishment of infrastructure, its maintenance and upgrades. They have spent lots of fund and efforts for brand recognition and representation. If you simply say YES or OK over the conversation without cross checking, then you are done. Believe me the word free sometimes or most often becomes free speech. You know company have right to sell their product, increase revenue, sometime use hook-and-switch policy like Facebook Terms and Conditions. Take care about that.

I am getting calls from Etisalat, What should I do ?

Keep calm, listen them carefully. If you have doubts, you can request them to send email (in writing) about the offer. You can accept offer, if you are convinced, people have choices. Check website, call 101 and ask the detail about on going offer. Please do not forget to ask underlying hidden charges. Record your calls if possible because Etisalat will ask you to provide the call timings.

There are always multiple views of single matter. Sometime you will get helping hand sometime you will be cheated. Nobody can guarantee the pattern of human nature. Some people have wrote me that Etisalat sales representative had called them, told about offers even after cancellation of their eLife service.

You might be thinking that you can easily cancel the upgrades, add ons or offers but my friend before doing that you should thoroughly read the terms and conditions. There is no need to be emotional about their requests. A successful salesman is one who can sell combs to balds. Don't be serious, be sincere about the offers, about repeated request, about the FREE word.

Here is the simple steps to change wireless name and wireless password in Dlink 803 Router provided by Etisalat.

Let's start

a) Connect your router with wifi device or computer through wire.

b) Type 192.168.1.1 (or 192.168.0.1)

c) Type admin as username and password and click Enter button (if ip address is 192.168.0.1, then don't give username and password, simply click on Enter button)

d) Click Next on Setup Wizard


e) Click Next on Operation Mode


f) Click Next on Time Zone Setting


g) Click Next on LAN Interface Setup


h) Click Next on WAN Interface Setup


i) Click Next on Select Wireless Band


j) Give wifi name on SSID field of Wireless 5GHz Basic Settings and click Next


k) Select WPA2 as Encryption, give wireless password and click Next button on Wireless 5Ghz Security Setup


l) Give wifi name on SSID field of Wireless 2.4GHz Basic Settings and click Next


m) Select WPA2 as Encryption, give wireless password and click Finished button on Wireless 2.4Ghz Security Setup


n) Your router will restart, you will see new wifi name in your wireless device, connect to the wifi with new password.

Dlink 803 Router Setup



Dlink 803 Router Setup


Dlink 803 router can be used as both ordinary broadband router or PnP router (Plug and play device where settings are automatically configured from ISP side ACS Server i.e. Automatic Configuration Server). If your Internet service is defined as PnP, then no need to configure this router. For PnP service, your ISP will automatically allocate default wifi name (could be your username) and wifi password (could be your mobile number). However, you can change the default wifi name and password according to your choice. So here's the steps for manual configuration of DLINK 803 Router.

Let's start 


  1. Connect Internet port of the router to the Ethernet port specified for Internet in the ONT
  2. Connect your laptop to the LAN port (any) of the router
  3. Type 192.168.1.1 (or 192.168.0.1) in any Internet browser
  4. If the router page is asking for login credentials for address 192.168.1.1, enter username as admin and password as admin then click on Enter button. For 192.168.0.1, press Enter button without giving any username and password. Or directly go to 192.168.1.1/home.htm or 192.168.0.1/home.htm
  5. You will get following Setup Wizard Screen, click Next


  6. Select Gateway on Operation Mode page then Click Next

  7. Click Next on Time Zone Setting page

  8. Click Next on LAN Interface Setup

  9. Put ISP provided username and password for Internet and Click Next on WAN Interface Setup page

  10. Select 2.4G+5G Concurrent option and click Next on Select Wireless Band page

  11. Give wifi name in SSID field and Click Next on Wireless 5Ghz Basic Settings page

  12. Select Encryption as WPA2 Mixed, give wifi password and Click Next on Wireless 5Ghz Security Setup page

  13. Give wifi name (use same as before, no issues) in SSID field and Click Next on Wireless 2.4 Ghz Basic Settings page

  14. Select Encryption as WPA2 Mixed, give wifi password (same as before, no issues) and Click Finished on Wireless 2.4Ghz Security Setup page

  15. The router will restart and after few seconds you will be connected to the Internet

Not Subscribed Error

Etisalat IPTV Not Subscribed Error



When you TURN ON the IPTV receiver, instead of channel preview you will receive an error "Not subscribed".

Why is this happening ?

This problem occurs if the your IPTV Serial number and MAC address is not matching with Etisalat system records.

What to do ?

Turning OFF/ON the main fiber optic box or the IPTV receiver will not solve this issue, you must call 101 and register your complaint so that field engineer will visit your place to correct the IPTV Serial number and MAC address. In most of the case, they will change your IPTV receiver.
